The Influence of Bettie Page
The influence that Bettie Page has had on me and my art is huge, she is the reason I really got into drawing pin up’s. I was fourteen the very first time I seen her and it was in Olivia’s “Hot Sauce” painting. I wanted to find out more about her so I bought the book Bettie Page: The Queen of Hearts by Jim Silke and I drew the pictures in that book over and over again, I’ve been fascinated with her ever since. She wasn’t photographed by the big time photographers or styled by the best, but she didn’t need them, she created her own unique glamour and I love that! Another thing I love about Bettie is that she always seemed so carefree and confident in her photographs, whether she was nude on the beach playing in the ocean or wearing fully fashioned stockings with a whip in her mouth she always looked happy and never ashamed. Bettie sure did know how to pose! She posed as if she knew that artists would use her as a model someday, the way she stretched every muscle and pointed her toes, she was amazing. I always have fun when I draw Bettie and I’m forever grateful for all of the beautiful pictures that she left the world with.
