Why I love Bettie
Bettie Page was an incredible woman, her image has become truly iconic and deservedly so. The reason I fell in love with her pictures was the fact that in each and every one, even the more kinky ones, her individuality shines through. Even when she's tied up and gagged there's that energy and sense of fun, as well a huge bundle of sexuality and confidence. A lot of modern portrayals of sexuality have sadly lost that sense of enjoyment and humour; it's all seriousness and pouts! This is why it makes me extremely happy to see a website like this where other people appreciate what was so unique about Bettie.
Bettie could be completely naked but because of her cheeky expressions the photos seem a little less rude or indecent. I'm not sure what it was about her...she just seemed to lighten every photo and that's one of the top things I admire about her. Being natural and playful is very important when it comes to pin up and she captured that perfectly. In every shot there's a sparkle in her eyes that's never been dimmed by the passing years. I imagine she'd have been a wonderful person to spend time with and I'm glad through her pictures so many of us can have the opportunity to know her even just a little...
Bio I'm Stephanie Jay, a pin up from Chelmsford in England. I sort of stumbled into pin up with no actual belief I would become a model, as I'm not the most confident of girls and I'm still not sure I qualify as a model! To start with I did one pin up shoot as a confidence push, but after doing that I was surprised people actually approached me wanting to work together! Me?! Really?! And so it began...Stephanie Jay was born.
I donned my stockings, corsets and heels and trotted off to shoots, eagerly awaiting the photoey goodness we produced and hoping we'd captured some classic inspired pin up. In my pictures I try and convey a sense of fun...I certainly feel more comfortable pulling an over the top, cartoon expression than a serious seductive face! I love the innocence and cheekiness of it all really and that's what I try to put out there in my photos - they were a lot of fun to create!
