by: Autumn Murray, Brand Ambassador

We know how hard getting your tresses perfectly quaffed, especially with costume parties to attend in such short amount of time! Team Bettie is here to help you make those gorgeous locks looking perfect for any occasion. Here are step-by-step instructions to create the perfect Bettie waves! (Disclaimer: This style is well suited for medium to long hair.)

Items Needed:

  • Wand Curler
  • Section Clips
  • Strong Hold Hairspray
  • Wide Tooth Comb
  • Teasing Brush or Teasing Comb (Rat Tail Comb)
  1. Start with freshly washed, dry hair and section the hair half up using the large section clips or hair band.
  2. Beginning with the bottom section of hair, using your wand on it’s highest temperature, wrap a small section of hair around the wand. The wand should be behind the strand of hair, with the wand as close as possible to your scalp. Wrap the hair back around the wand until the entire strand of hair wraps the wand. Hold it tight for 15-20 secs.

** Be sure to get those ends around the wand for at least a few seconds.Continue this layer by layer , section by section (HAIRSPRAY EACH SECTION)  until you have a full head of wanded spiral curls

  3. Now that all your curls are done, make a center part and using your wide tooth comb, comb through the ends of your hair. Once done with the ends, comb through starting from the scalp creating your first noticeable wave indents.

  4. You’ll now take your teasing brush or rat tail comb (whichever you prefer) and section out four parts of the hair on the top of your head: From your center part, use the back of your brush or comb to part horizontally from your ear, forming two sections on each side of the middle part. Be sure to clip each part to keep them separate.
    1. Teasing: Start with hair spraying the back sections (separately) and begin a hard tease.
    2. How to tease: Lift a small section of hair from the ends, place comb where hair is closest to the scalp and  start to back comb, keeping a tight grip on the comb moving from up to down.
    3. After teasing all 4 sections, grab your teasing brush & smooth out the top layer of hair. Brush out until you see the wave indents again. Be sure not to brush all of your teasing out!

  5. To help form the wave indents and keep the hair in place, place the section clips in each wave indent, and spray that strong hold! Repeat this for each wave indent.
